Transition Area Info

Kerrville Tri is a 2 Transition Event

All events at the Kerrville Triathlon Festival will use a two transition area format. T1 (swim to bike) and T2 (bike to run) are in different locations approximately 2 miles apart. Participants will ride their bicycles during the event from T1 after the swim and end up at T2, where they will begin the run.

Only participants are allowed in transition, friends and family (including children) must wait outside of transition.

There will be mechanics just outside of T1 for any last minute needs and with bike pumps for airing up your tires. Once transition closes, you will not be allowed back in, so be sure to arrive early.

After packet pick-up, there is MANDATORY bike check-in and run bag drop. This will require a trip to T1 with your bike and a trip to T2 to drop your run bag. Please see the course maps to visualize the locations of T1 and T2.

T1

Body Marking – Tri Tattoos

Each participant must have their race numbers visible on the arm and leg. This can be done with triathlon temporary tattoos provided in your race packet.

Racking Your Bike

Transition will have racks assigned to each age group. It is open racking within your age group and your distance. Your age group is based on how old you will be on December 31, so if you’ll be 40 by then, you will rack in the 40+ range even if you’re only 39 on race day. You must be body marked and wearing your athlete wristband before you enter transition.

T1 & Extra Clothes Bag

After the swim, all of your gear will be safely transported from T1 to T2 by event staff, so that all of your belongings are in T2 after the race. You will drop your Extra Clothes Bag off at the designated location outside of T1. You will leave your T1 bag on the ground at your transition spot.

Everything must be inside the bag, items that are outside the bag will not be brought to T2 and are at risk of being lost.  The event is not responsible for lost items.  You can also put anything that you want to access post-race in this bag, such as flip-flops or a change of clothes.

T2

Hanging Your T2 Bag

Racks are organized by distance and bib number. You will tie your run bag to the rack, no more than 8 bags per rack. Everything must stay inside the bag and nothing can be left of the ground. Leave even spacing knowing that 8 bikes will need to fit onto the rack when you come in from the bike course.

Reclaiming Your Other Gear Bags

Your T1 and Extra Clothes Bag will be brought to T2 from T1 and organized by your bib number. The gear Bag pick up is located on the far side of T2. Communicate with the volunteers to reclaim your gear bag, you will need to have your bib number that matches the bags. It is important that you have clearly marked your bags with the number stickers provided.

Bike Check-Out

Transition is closed from re-entry & bikes must stay racked until these times.  Use your T1 or Extra Clothes bag for anything you need to access before bike check out opens.

SPRINT & ROOKIE

10:00-11:45

QUARTER

12:00-4:30

HALF

1:30-4:30

Bikes will not be allowed out of Transition until the official bike check-out time. An announcement will be made when the transition area is open for bike check out.

You will need to have your wristband on to enter transition and have the matching number to the bike to take it out. Every bike will be checked to make sure it is being taken by the correct person. Since this takes time, please leave your bike in transition until you plan on leaving the race site.

RELAY CORRAL

Relays will have one chip assigned for the group. The team members will meet in the corral to exchange the timing chip.

After the swim, they will pass the chip in the corral before heading to the bike rack. After the bike portion of the race, the team member will rack their bike and then proceed to the corral to pass the chip to the waiting runner.

Be sure to have an idea of your teammate’s timing so that you are there when they return. When it is time for you to meet your team member, you can enter through the designated gate to access the corral. You cannot wait by the transition rack or walk around transition, you are only allowed access to the corral when it is your turn to receive the timing chip.

All relay team members receive a finisher medal that can be picked up at the finish line.
